Workable #13: Practice, Trust, Commitment, and Output

I wrote the following in my journal on 26 January 2022. I wanted to put it out into the world. Here it is (along with a fancy picture I drew).

Practice creates a kind of trust. Trust builds commitment to the practice, thus reinforcing the trust. This cycle results in output. NOTE: I am not saying the output will always (or ever) be good, but it will be there. You will make something.
This cycle is where it all happens.

This is the secret sauce, isn't it? Over the course of the next few posts, I'm going to unpack these ideas. In the meantime, you might want to think about your own practice as an artist. Here are some priming questions for you:

  • What do you consider part of your practice?
  • Do you trust your process?
  • How committed are you?
  • Are you more oriented to results or to the process itself?

NOTE: I'm drawing heavily from Seth Godin's The Practice here. Get a copy!
